You can use it easily by connecting it to a compatible Type K measuring device and applying the probe tip to any flat or slightly convex surface.

Using the probe can reduce the temperature minimally in the immediate contact area. At +600°C, the contact point won't be reduced by more than 2°C. There's generally less heat loss on clean and thermally conductive surfaces.
