An IP rating classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact and water in electrical enclosures. The first number indicates the protection from solids and the second number is the protection from liquids.

This enclosure has an IP66 rating meaning it is totally protected against dust ingress and is protected against high-pressure water jets from any direction with limited water ingress, making it suitable for use outside.
