Smart lights have been designed to use wireless transmissions to send and receive signals with some using built in Wi Fi radios to connect directly with a router meaning people can control their lights remotely wherever there is an internet connection. Bluetooth radios can also be used to connect directly with your mobile phone when you are within the radius e.g. 50 feet approximately, otherwise Wi Fi hubs may be needed to control light bulbs further away.

Smart lights are used to illuminate areas and can be controlled from the wall switch or via a smartphone or tablet to suit the light you need for any environment. Smart lights are also able to activate light dimming which can reduce energy consumption.

You can connect to the system using multiple methods which include Wi-Fi. ZigBee and Bluetooth technology.

Do smart lights use power when they are off?

Yes, smart bulbs still use power even when they are not giving out any light. This is because they must maintain communication with your home's Wi Fi so that they are always ready whenever the lights are turned on remotely. However smart bulbs are more cost efficient than traditional bulbs as they use less energy.
