What's the difference between a variable-speed drive and a variable-frequency drive?
A variable-speed drive regulates the power going through to motors from a power supply. It lets the motor function at its full design speed. A variable-frequency drive varies the voltage and frequency of a standard AC motor and can change speeds when the motor starts, runs and stops.
