Automation Signalling

Essential for the proper operating of machines and processes, automation signalling includes beacons and sounders such as sirens that indicate or alert operators to the current status of a machine process. The various signalling systems are often a requirement for compliance in workplaces or public areas wherever machinery or equipment might pose a hazard to personnel.

From emergency lighting to warning buzzers, automation signalling covers a wide range of workplace and equipment applications. Its primary purpose is to make sure the user or personnel in the work environment are able to easily discern the operating state of electromechanical machinery, improving efficiency and ensuring workplace safety. Components such as signalling towers are used in automation and control processes as a quick, visual verification of stop, start, or if there is a fault in operation.

Ensure you're keeping your workforce safe with our extensive range of sounders and beacons for use in numerous commercial and industrial sectors including construction, automotive and aviation.

Types of Sounders and Beacons

  • Rotating - contains a continuously lit bulb that rotates to give the effect of a flash, which is ideal for attracting attention to moving vehicles or urgent machinery processes.
  • Flashing - have a bulb that flashes on and off, offering the same advantages and purposes of a rotating beacon.
  • Flashing strobe - produces fast, regular flashes of light which may be advantageous in low light or outdoor conditions.

The bulbs used can vary depending on whether you choose a halogen beacon, Xenon beacon or LED beacon. Each bulb type has differing advantages for visibility and longevity. When installing your automation and signalling solution, be sure to choose the most suitable and cost-effective and energy efficient your environment.

The Different Uses of Sounders and Beacons

  • Fire and security alarms
  • Machinery breakdowns
  • Moving traffic in warehouses such as forklift trucks
  • Gas detection
  • Emergency services
  • Rail transport systems

Sounders and beacons can be used both indoors and out, but if using outside you should ensure you choose a weatherproof version that has suitable visibility for the environment.

What's the coverage area of a sounder beacon?

Typically, the audio range of a sounder beacon will be between 5 and 15 decibels above the ambient noise level. There are many considerations when working out the coverage of a sounder beacon, and it needs to be loud enough to be heard over typical workplace audio, and throughout all necessary parts of the premises.
