UCS1002 and PIC16F1503 USB Charger Reference Design
This reference design from Microchip utilises a UCS1002 Programmable Port Power Controller IC in combination with a PIC16F1503 Microcontroller to provide a fully functional Universal Serial Bus (USB) charger that is compatible with a wide variety of portable devices.
The UCS1002 Programmable Port Power Controller is capable of delivering up to 2.5A charging current. Features like current monitoring and programmable charger emulation profiles make it a good candidate to be used with a PIC® Microcontroller for intelligent USB charging solutions.
In this design the PIC® MCU employs an algorithm that applies multiple charger emulation profiles and selects the one most appropriate to provide the highest current to the attached device.
