The electrical circuit travels up the discharge capacitor into the curved tube containing the xenon gas. The electricity then ignites the gas, causing a bright flash with an energy of 2J (joules). Light flashes from the transparent tube in all directions, creating a 360° beam along the vertical axis. This makes it easy to see over a wide area.
