RS PRO BZP Galvanised Steel Pozidriv Flat Pan & Countersunk Head Self Tapping Screw Kit

From the trusted RS PRO professional brand, this set of high-quality Pozidriv flat pan and countersunk head self-tapping screws are ideal for many applications. Self-tapping screws are split into two main categories, thread-forming and thread-cutting. The screws are similar in the job they do, however they have two noticeable differences. Thread-forming screws have a flat base whereas thread-cutting screws have a sharp point. The difference between self-tapping and self-drilling fasteners is that self-tapping screws will tap a hole into a soft material, self-drilling screws can drill a hole into anything from metal to wood meaning no pilot hole is needed.

The Thread-Forming Screw

Before using this type of self-tapping screw, it is recommended that a pilot hole is drilled into the material. As thread-forming screws have a flat nose, it makes the drilling process easier. Thread-forming screws are used when fastening plastic together.

The Thread-Cutting Screw

This style of self-tapping screw does not require any preparation. As it has a pointed tip, it is not necessary to create a pre-drilled pilot hole. Thread-cutting screws can pierce a small entry hole while being driven into the material the thread is being created.

Self-tapping screws are traditionally used where an application requires regular maintenance and regular easy access. These screws are useful in situations where products must be assembled and disassembled, such as access panels or even furniture.

These thread-cutting self-tapping screws are made from BZP (Bright Zinc Plating) galvanised steel, which is one of the most common finishes for the majority of fixings. This thin layer offers galvanising protection to the steel, preventing rust and oxidation except in outdoor environments.

In this kit, you will find 1230 self-tapping screws in pan and countersunk head variations, in thread sizes 10, 8, 6, and 4 and with lengths ranging from in to 1 in.

Features and Benefits

  • Thread-cutting self-tapping screws with pan and countersunk heads to DIN7981 & DIN7892 standards.

  • Pozidriv

  • BZP galvanised steel

  • Generally non-magnetic

  • Cannot be hardened by heat treatment

  • Supplied in a polypropylene case with a hinged cover

The bright finish of BZP steel offers a uniform appearance and protects the steel beneath it from oxidation or rust, however the BZP layer itself is very thin and is susceptible to rust itself in outdoor environments. Self-tapping screws are ideal for applications that require regular maintenance, such as unit fixtures or panels, and additionally work well when joining two different kinds of materials due to the precise thread they create.
