RS Pro H05VV-F Flexible PVC Insulated Mains Cable

From RS Pro a high-quality medium duty H05VV-F flexible mains power cable with PVC insulation and a PVC jacket. This flexible cable has a voltage rating of 300 to 500 V and is designed for use in medium duty domestic and light industrial appliances

What is Mains Cable?

A mains power cable connects an appliance to a mains electricity supply through the use of a wall socket or an extension lead which will then be plugged into a mains supply

Cable Construction

This flexible electrical power cable consists of either 2,3 4 or 5 cores made up of fine stranded copper conductors or wires. Each individual core is surrounded by colour coded PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation for easy identification of the wires. All the cores are then surrounded by a final outer layer of PVC called a sheath or jacket.

What Does H05VV-F Mean?

H05VV-F mains power cable (also known as 318-Y cable) is a type of harmonized (or HAR) cable which means it belongs to the Harmonised reference system and conforms to the European Harmonisation Standard. This purpose of this standard is to improve standards and quality across Europe to ensure the trade of common standard product.

H05VV-F is the code for this harmonized power cable which breaks down into the following:

• H = Harmonized
• 05 = 300V / 500V voltage rating
• V = PVC insulation
• V = PVC sheath
• F = Flexible copper conductors

Benefits of PVC Insulated Mains Cable

The PVC insulation and sheath of this mains power cable has the following properties

• Low cost
• Excellent insulation properties
• Flexible
• Stable, robust and durable
• Oil resistant

Where are These Cables Used?

PVC insulated mains cables are used for light to medium duty wiring in small to medium size appliances found in domestic, commercial and light industrial premises. This electrical mains cable should be used for wiring appliances that are indoors or in a covered, dry or humid area and is best used where the potential for mechanical stresses and mechanical damage is low. This cable can only be used with cooking and heating equipment if the cable does not come into direct contact with the hot parts of the equipment or with any other heat source. Applications include the following:

• Computer and office equipment
• Kitchen appliances such as toasters
• Household appliances such as vacuum cleaners and washing machines
• Radios and music centres
• Table lamps and floor lamps
• Hair dryers

Note

The number of strands used in the construction of the cores is nominal and may vary.

This black 3 core cable from RS Pro has a 6A current rating with a conductor resistance of 26 Ω/km. The cross sectional area is 0.75 mm² with a wire gauge of 18 AWG and an outside diameter of 6.47 mm.
