Analogue Power Meters

Analogue power meters are used to measure active or reactive power. They gauge the power factor of a single- or three-phase electric distribution system with a balanced or unbalanced connection. Readings are given by a pointer on a curved dial.

How do analogue power meters work?

Analogue power meters have a built-in microprocessor that calculates power from the measured signals of voltage and current. The power factor meter determines the type of load used on the line, and it also calculates the losses. There are two types of analogue power meters: electrodynamometers (available in single- or three-phase connections), and moving-iron type meters. A moving-iron type meter requires large working force in comparison to the electrodynamometer type meter.

Analogue power meters are used for applications such asAC switchgears, panel, switchboards and generator sets. The different meters include “through hole” connection, voltage dividers, internal microprocessor and power supply units. For maximum accuracy, the essential measuring range is obtained by suppressing the unwanted frequency span.
