Product Details
Surge & Noise Suppressor, MA15 Series
MA15 series surge protection devices protect electronic equipment and computer networks against ""noise pollution"".MA15 units clean the effects of industrial noise and surges that may be caused by lightning, switching devices and power factor correction circuits. Suitable for AC or DC application, MA15 units reduce both electromagnetic emissions
and the susceptibility of the associated equipment to emissions from
other sources.

Eaton Surge and Noise Filter - MA15 Series - MA15/D/1/SI/RS
Use this Eaton surge and noise filter to protect your sensitive data and communication systems against electrical supply malfunctions. Electronic equipment, such as telephone or data systems, can be damaged by electrical spikes or noise on the electrical supply. This device will protect them and increase their life when these events occur. It can be connected in parallel with other units, so there's no practical limit to the surge current protection offered.
High maximum surge current of 18 kA
Versatile option suitable for AC or DC application
Operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C for use in demanding conditions
DIN rail mounting type for standard use
Compact dimensions of 79 (L) x 25 (D) x 93 (H) mm

What is an electrical spike?
An electrical spike is a sudden, brief increase in voltage and/or current. Spikes can happen when there's a lightning strike close by, when fluorescent lights are switched on or mains electrical supplies are connected incorrectly.
What is electrical noise?
Electrical noise is a disturbance in an electrical circuit that causes unpredictable changes in voltage or current. Sources of noise include power tools, control circuits, arcing equipment and switching power supplies.

Surge Protection Devices, SPDs (DIN-rail)
Voltage surges, often referred to as spikes or transients are typically caused by switching of fluorescent lights, fuses blowing or nearby lightning activity. The worst voltage surges are usually caused by lightning and can reach up to 6000V, with current surges of over 3000A. The maximum size of the voltage and current surges depends on the location within the building's wiring system. BS7671: 2011 Amendment 1 Sections 443 and 534 cover risk assessment and provides guidance on protection of electronic equipment for installation engineers to follow. The fullest information on lightning and surge protection comes from the BSEN 62305 series of standards.
